Halimey: I didn’t get TV invitation

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Seri Setia by-election Halimey Abu Bakar has denied that he pulled out of the Agenda Awani television programme, where he was supposed to face his opponent, Dr Halimah Ali of Pas.

Halimey said he never received an invitation to appear on the programme.

“There’s no issue of me withdrawing, or being afraid to debate because I was not invited as a guest (on the show).

“There could have been a miscommunication, but what is certain is that I did not receive an invitation.”

He said this when asked to comment on claims on social media that he had pulled out of a debate with Dr Halimah.

He said he was confident that Seri Setia voters would not be swayed by issues, such as the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) and PH’s 100-day manifesto pledges.

“They (the voters) never even asked me (about that). I will ensure that all issues raised will be given attention so that everyone’s interest is taken care of.

“I will continue to fulfil all programme invitations as our aim is to ensure that PH remains in Seri Setia.”

The by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent, Professor Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, of bowel cancer on Aug 2.

In the 14th General Election, Shaharuddin won the seat with a majority of 19,372 votes, beating Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Yusoff Haniff, Mohd Ghazali Daud from Pas and Independent candidate Dr S. Vignes.
