Tan: No need to talk about BN issues
BANGI: MCA candidate for the Balakong by-election Tan Chee Teong believes Barisan Nasional has become a footnote in history following its defeat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Following the transition to a new government, it was time MCA stood “independent” as it stepped towards the future, he said.
He said leaders from all political parties should cease harping on issues related to BN.
“There’s no need for political games anymore. Instead of attacking each other, we should focus on matters that benefit the people.
“This isn’t constructive. I will not comment on this (BN issues), and if possible, I don’t wish to address them.
“Ask me what we can do to develop Balakong and I can answer your questions because I have them all in my head,” he said after a walkabout at the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn foodstalls on Friday.
Tan was commenting on a statement by Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who had said MCA was keeping silent on the wrongdoings committed by the previous government.
Gobind said MCA had not only kept silent about the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal, but had accused Pakatan Harapan of dirty politics when it exposed the scandal.
On his campaign’s progress, especially in Malay areas, Tan said he did not face any problem.
“My campaign isn’t bound by race.
“I am race-blind. I don’t go down to the ground with just votes in mind.
“I’m also looking at how to improve the constituency.”
On why there were no senior Umno leaders joining the campaigning, he said several Umno and MIC members had helped him with the campaign.
In the by-election, which is being held following the death of assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee in a road accident on July 20, Tan faces PH candidate Wong Siew Ki.
In GE14, Ng defeated BN candidate Lim Chin Wah and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali of Pas with a majority of 35,538 votes.
