PRASARANA Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Masnizam Hisham has confirmed that her contract has been cut short by the government.

She was appointed to the post eight months ago.

“The letter from the Finance Ministry says my contract has been cut short, and no reason was given,” she said yesterday.

A media report cited a farewell letter to Prasarana staff stating that Masnizam’s last working day would be Monday.

In the letter, Masznizam reportedly said she had taken over as Prasarana CEO when costs were spiralling in several projects, including the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT 3) from Petaling Jaya to Klang.

“If we had been firm in managing costs, we would not be in the acute financial situation we are in today,” she reportedly said.

Maznizam was previously Prasarana chief infrastructure officer and had been with the company for more than a decade.

There were allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement in the LRT3 project after Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng revealed that the final cost of the project would be exceeding RM31 billion, against an initial RM9 billion.

Former prime minister and finance minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak rejected Lim’s claim.

He said he had never approved Prasarana’s request for an additional RM22 billion funding for the project. After being amended it is now expected to cost RM16.63 billion.
