ANWAR NARROWS DOWN CHOICE OF SEATS TO ‘TWO OR THREE’
‘It’s narrowed down to 2 or 3 seats but nothing’s finalised’
DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday said it is not right for him to reveal which parliamentary seat he would contest as it has yet to be finalised.
“We have narrowed it down to two to three seats but nothing has been finalised.
“It is not right for me to give any hint about the seats or even the states I am looking at,” he said after opening the Penang PKR divisional meetings at a hotel here.
On when he would make the announcement, Anwar said: “Once my colleagues and I have settled with the constituency.”
“I will discuss with the prime minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad). I will inform all my colleagues in Pakatan Harapan. “Only then will I announce.” Anwar said there were many things to consider.
“Is the seatholder willing to vacate his or her seat? Will the constituents be comfortable with Anwar?”
On the possibility of coming back to Penang to contest, he said in jest: “I am discussing with Mansor (Datuk Mansor Othman) for his Nibong Tebal seat.
“To be fair, most of my colleagues have indicated they do not have a problem with that (vacating their seats), although some choose to remain private.”
On criticism that he should not make members of parliament vacate their seats for him, Anwar said such a thing had happened before.
“This process is acceptable in a democracy. They know I should be a candidate but could not. So I am there to get the people’s mandate.”
Anwar had said he hoped to return to Parliament as soon as next month.
