EPU to be upgraded to full ministry status
PUTRAJAYA: The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) is being upgraded to full ministry status and will be placed under the Economic Affairs Ministry, helmed by Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Its director-general, Datuk Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, who was appointed to the post in
June last year, is now its secretary-general, effective
Saturday.
The EPU operates from the
Prime Minis- ter’s Depart- ment’s office at Block B5 and Block B6 in Presint 1 here.
The New Straits Times Press has learnt that EPU’s restructuring and upgrading process has passed several stages of discussion, including with the unit’s top management.
The upgrading process for the unit or elevation to a ministry can be considered timely as the EPU will no longer be a single entity run by Azmin, but several new portfolios will also be administered together under the new ministry when it attains the ministry status.
