Halimey: I didn’t use govt machinery
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan Seri Setia by-election candidate Halimey Abu Bakar has denied using the government’s machinery for his campaign.
He also denied he gave out goods to those in the constituency in a bid to garner votes.
“I did not (use the state government machinery) and I did not hand out any goods to voters in my campaign,” he said yesterday.
He was responding to a news report on a statement made by Pas candidate Dr Halimah Ali, in which she questioned if Halimey’s campaign was “bersih” (clean). She had asked why was the state government machinery used for the by-election campaign.
Dr Halimah reportedly said since it was now a “Malaysia Baru”, people must talk about government and election reform.
“I was observing this morning and afternoon’s (Saturday) programmes at PJS 6 and Desa Mentari. The government (machinery) was handing out items,” she reportedly said.
Halimey said: “These allegations are false. If it was in reference to a programme with an educational institution recently, I was just present as a guest.”
He said this after a gotong-royong and free health check programme at the Seri Jati Flats in Ara Damansara here yesterday.
Present was Petaling Jaya member of parliament Maria Chin Abdullah.
Halimey said if he was given the mandate to be Seri Setia assemblyman, he would help small- and medium-scale entrepreneurs in the area.
He said this was to ensure that they could stand besides businesses that have been around longer.
“The Seri Setia constituency is unique as it is situated in the middle of a metropolitan city, apart from being part of the road network between Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
“Among the focus of my plan is to restructure and upgrade stalls in Seri Setia. Traders will also be given exposure to information technology to ensure they can market products online.”
