Penang cops seize one tonne of ‘syabu’

GEORGE TOWN: Police scored their biggest success with the seizure of one tonne of syabu, worth RM54 million, on Friday.

The drugs were seized from a store in Jelutong here at 4pm. A 47-year-old lorry driver was arrested.

Federal Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said police apprehende­d the suspect in front of a shop in Jalan Tengah, Bayan Lepas.

He said the suspect led police to the store where 52 sacks of syabu, weighing 1,066kg, packed in Chinese tea packaging were uncovered.

“The drugs were found inside a lorry,” he said at the state police contingent headquarte­rs here yesterday.
