DHU students ready to support plan
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s proposal for a third national car project resonates well with graduates of DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia (DHU), who stand ready to support Malaysia’s quest to emerge as a regional or even global centre for hybrid and electrical vehicles.
With demand and technology in the future increasingly leaning towards environment-friendly cars or energy-efficient vehicles (EEV), DHU students armed with engineering auto skills share the prime minister’s vision to enhance Malaysia’s auto engineering capacity and create an auto ecosystem.
“We must create new technologies to support the growth of EEV and hybrid cards,” said Salfril Samad, who graduated with a diploma in automotive service technology this year and participated in the open category of the Worldskills Malaysia Youth held in Kuantan in April this year and won second place.
Students graduating from DHU with relevant engineering skills can help support the growth of an ecosystem for Malaysia in new auto technologies, said Salfril, an exemplary student who was awarded the Vice-Chancellor Award with a cumulative grade point average of 3.96 and is pursuing his bachelor of mechanical engineering technology at DHU.
Another DHU graduate, Mohammad Asyraf Yusni, who won a gold medal at the Asean Skills Competition in 2016 and led Malaysia to a bronze medal and Best of Nation in Worldskills in Abu Dhabi last year, said “opportunities were abound in the automotive sector”.
