Nur Izazi just misses 10m national mark

-

Izazi Rosli came close to erasing the national record in the women’s 10m air rifle by posting 623.30 points for the gold medal in the Malaysia Games at the Darul Ridzuan Shooting Centre in Ipoh yesterday.

Federal Territories’ Nur Izazi, who represented the country at the recent Indonesia Asian Games, was just 1.20 points short of the national record set by Nur Suryani Taibi this year.

Her mark, however, managed to surpass the previous games record.

“I am very happy with my performance. My outing at the Asian Games has helped me in all aspects, and the gold today is a testament to the progress I have made so far in the sport.

“I think being in the national team offers advantages as I get to train under South Korea coach Park Sang Soong regularly.

“However, it was still not easy today as other shooters gave me a tough time and thankfully, I managed to perform well,” she said.

Pahang’s Shalyn Najjihah Sharif (620.70) won the silver while Perak’s Nur Fatin Syairah Abdul Latif (619.20) finished third.

In the team event, Perak, comprising Nur Fatin, Sharifah Noor Ellyana Syed Abdul Hamid and Nurul Athirah Huzaimi, won the gold with a new games record by posting 1,829.80 points, surpassing their old mark of 1,226.80 set at the 2016 Sarawak edition.

Pahang’s Shalyn Najjihah, Nur Aqilah Mohd Faizul and Nur Afiqah Najib took second on 1,824.60, followed by Selangor’s Nurlissa Erinna Wan Yusoff, Nur Eliya Natasya Zakaria and Nur Dayana Hijrah Danial Ng on 1,806.40.

In the men’s 50m pistol, Terengganu’s Qamarul Naim Abu Aziz won the gold by smashing the games record of 540 points. He posted 541 points, followed by Perak’s Siau Zianyi (530) and Johor’s Syafiqrul Firdaus Mohd Husni (517).

In the team event, Perak’s Zianyi, Amir Faris Basri and Ilmi Azri Abdul Razak took the title with 1,534 on countback over Terengganu’s Muhammad Syafiqrul, Safirredzuan Salim and Muhd Qamarul Naim, who posted an identical score.

Johor’s Sim Jia Hong, Hudzriy Jaslan and Hazeq Haqeem Azmi finished third on 1,532.
