KUALA NERUS: Terengganu will abide by the directive to finetune the oil royalty payment method issue within six months.

Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said he hoped the directive was not an attempt to delay the oil royalty payment promised by the Pakatan Harapan government.

“We are not concerned about the duration given to study and discuss the paying of royalty to oil-producing states, but we want to protect our rights.

“I appreciate the Federal Government’s initiative and hope it is not an empty promise,” he said at the 64th Pas Muktamar at the Gong Badak Indoor Stadium.

He was commenting on the six-month period given to a cabinet committee to fine-tune the payment method for oil royalty to oil-producing states.

Economic Affairs MinisterDatuk Seri Azmin Ali had said the period would allow the committee to prepare suggestions before making a decision to increase oil royalty to 20 per cent from five per cent.
