School­girls win Women in Mo­tor­sport award at F1 in Schools World Fi­nals

THE Dex-Rac Rac­ing team from Pa­hang has brought hon­our to the coun­try af­ter win­ning the FIA Women in Mo­tor­sport award at the F1 in Schools World Fi­nals 2018 in Sin­ga­pore.

The Ed­u­ca­tion Min­istry yes­ter­day said the win­ning team from SMK Sul­tanah Ha­j­jah Kal­som in Kuan­tan, Pa­hang, was rep­re­sented by Ainul Jan­nah Hasil, 17, Nur Sab­rina Rid­uan, 17, Nur Alia Natasha Amizi, 17, and Sofiyya Na­bi­lah Azud­din Shah, 16.

The min­istry said the team proved that Malaysian stu­dents had the ca­pa­bil­ity to com­pete with 50 in­ter­na­tional teams and showed that girls could be adept at sci­ence, tech­nol­ogy, en­gi­neer­ing and math­e­mat­ics (STEM).

“There are 22 awards in the cham­pi­onship. The Dex-Rac Rac­ing team bagged one of the most pres­ti­gious awards by be­ing named the best women team in the world of au­to­mo­tive en­gi­neer­ing.

“On top of that, Dex-Rac Rac­ing placed ninth out of 50 coun­tries. It is an Asian team on a par with Euro­pean teams. It is also among the top three nom­i­na­tion for the In­no­va­tive Think­ing Award and Re­silience Award.”
