Mechanic cheated in online deal

-

KUANTAN: When a mechanic saw an advertisement offering a lorry for RM17,000 in Mudah.my, the 37-year-old made plans to buy the three-tonne vehicle.

However, he ended up being cheated of RM10,000 when the seller who put up the advertisement fled with the cash.

The suspect told the victim he had to deposit RM5,000 by noon and the balance had to be paid when he collected the vehicle in Jerantut. When the victim called the suspect at 11.20am to inform that the money had been transferred, the suspect told the victim to deposit another RM5,000, which the victim did 10 minutes later.

State Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Superintendent Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said as the mechanic headed to Jerantut to collect the vehicle, he received a message from the seller saying he did not want to sell the lorry.

“The mechanic was shocked and told the seller to return his money, but the suspect then refused to answer his calls.

“The victim, who realised that he had been cheated, then lodged a report.”
