UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin is not ruling out the possibility of a new coalition that will include Pas, MCA, MIC, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Bersatu Sabah and PKR.

“It is not impossible. With the right formula, we can form a coalition that can give Pakatan Harapan a run for its money.

“At the moment, Malaysia is dominated by one political coalition against many parties. Each has its own strength and has to be strategic and open to survive.

“It is not impossible for a new coalition that will include Pas, MCA, MIC, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Bersatu Sabah and PKR to form Pakatan Malaysia instead of Pakatan Harapan,” he said in a letter to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.

In replying to a statement by Muhyiddin that Umno had been destroyed, which was why Bersatu was formed, Khaled said Umno was the biggest party in Parliament and had the trust of the majority of Malays.

He said Umno was a formidable party and had learnt from its mistakes.

“Umno is more dominant than Bersatu.

“We will resurrect Umno as it is a movement to strengthen Malays. It is a Malay institution and to Johor folk like myself, it is part of our lives.

“Umno understood the signal that the rakyat gave them after the election, but that does not mean that it has surrendered and will do nothing.

“Instead, it will fix itself and have its credibility restored.

“It is part of life. We do not regret it. We will learn from our mistakes.

“Umno has learnt a big lesson and we promise not to repeat our past mistakes. Insyaallah, we will prevail.”
