KJ RAPS NEGRI MB’S ‘STAY OUT OF PD’ CALL
BN must not allow PKR president-elect to treat comeback as entitlement, says Rembau MP
REMBAU member of parliament (MP) Khairy Jamaluddin has given a succinct response to a call by Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun for the opposition to stay out of the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election.
In Port Dickson yesterday, Aminuddin, who is also Negri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan and PKR chief, said the opposition should let PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim win because he was slated to be the next prime minister.
Khairy blasted Aminuddin, saying the latter’s statement was akin to treating the Port Dickson by-election as a form of royal ascension that smacked of political entitlement.
He urged the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) to throw its hat into the ring as a sign of protest against PKR’s political manoeuvring in Port Dickson.
“Umno-BN must contest. PD is not a winnable seat but we must fight this shameless political entitlement. Coronations are for kings, and Anwar is not one,” Khairy tweeted yesterday.
Replying to an earlier tweet, Khairy said he was realistic about BN’s chances, adding that he was familiar with the constituency’s lay of the land.
The former Umno Youth chief called for Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz to be expelled from the party for offering to campaign for Anwar. Khairy said Nazri’s public statement was tantamount to betrayal against the party.
“The party’s ethics are clear. If one campaigns for an opposing party, (then that person) must be expelled from Umno.
“That is no longer merely raising differing opinions. That is betraying the party,” Khairy said in a tweet.
