‘FOLLOW RULES FOR SMOOTH RIDE’
Cops and 90 marshals to ensure safe ride
SEVERAL roads will be closed for the New Straits Times (NST) CCycle Challenge 2018 at Eco Sanctuary in Teluk Panglima Garang, Selangor, on Sunday.
D Wish Management technical director Sanusi Kamarul Azaha said the road closures would be done in stages from 7.30am to 2.30pm.
He said the event would have two routes — the Fun Ride and Century ride categories, which is divided into three sub-categories: Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Team Cycling Open.
Participants will be flagged off from the EcoWorld Sales Gallery @ Persiaran Eco Sanctuary at 7.30am.
The main routes for the event include Persiaran Rimbayu, Jalan Johan Setia, Jalan Klang Banting, Jalan Chodoi, Jalan Morib-Tanjung Sepat, Jalan Sepang and Jalan Sijangkang Utama.
“Among the roads that will be affected are Persiaran Rimbayu, Persiaran Flora, Persiaran Eco Sanctuary and Jalan Kampung Seri Cheeding for all race categories.
“For the 160km Century Ride, road closures will be from 7.30am to 2:30pm.“
He said the rides would require a rolling start until Km14 (Jalan Klang Banting), where participants were forbidden to cut the lead vehicle due to safety factors.
There will be 450 participants competing in the Century Ride, while 700 people will take part in the Fun Ride.
“Road closures for the Fun Ride will start at 8am and end at 10.30am. The ride features two categories — Corporate Senior Open, which is open to corporate senior management by invitation, and the Open category, which is open to all participants.”
The Century Ride will cover 160km, starting from the Eco Sanctuary Sales Gallery @ Persiaran Eco Sanctuary and move on to Persiaran Rimbayu, Persiaran Anggerik Mokara, Jalan Anggerik Tania, Jalan Kebun Barat, Jalan Kampung Batu 7, Jalan Johan Setia, Jalan Klang Banting, Jalan Banting-Morib, Jalan Morib-Tanjung Sepat, Jalan Tanjung Sepat Sungai Pelek, Jalan Sungai Pelek Sepang, Jalan Sepang, Kuarters KLIA Sepang, Jalan Pekeliling, Jalan KLIA 1, Jalan Olak Lempit, Jalan Bukit Perah, Jalan Kampung Sri Cheeding, Bulatan Persiaran Bayu, Persiaran Flora, Persiaran Rimbayu and Persiaran Rimba.
The race will end at the Eco Sanctuary Sales Gallery.
Sanusi said the Fun Ride covered a 35km route that would pass Persiaran Eco Sanctuary, Persiaran Rimbayu, Jalan Kampung Lombong, Jalan Kebun Tambahan, Jalan Kebun Baru Batu 9, Jalan Rajawali, Jalan Sungai Rambai, Jalan Sukepi, Jalan Kampung Jenjarom, Jalan Aman, Jalan Kampung Sri Cheeding, Bulatan Persiaran Bayu, Persiaran Flora, Persiaran Rimbayu, Persiaran Rimba and back to the Eco Sanctuary Sales Gallery for the finish line.
He said the NST C-Cycle Challenge organisers would work with the police, who would be assisted by 90 marshals to ensure a smooth and safe ride for participants.
“There will be 40 traffic escort officers from the Selangor police headquarters and another 50 traffic officers from Banting, Sepang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) district police headquarters.
“All Fun Ride participants will stop at the aid station at Km17, where there will be marshals and traffic policemen.
“Participants are required to follow the lead car from the start to the finish line.
“My advice to Fun Ride participants is to follow the lead car and ride at a speed of 25kph.”
Sanusi said there would be three aid stations at Km41 (cutoff time at 9am), Km82 (cut-off time at 11am) and Km117 (cut-off time at 1pm).
He reminded participants not to exceed their stay at each aid station due to safety factors.
In the event of weather interruption, such as heavy rain, Sanusi said the organisers would refer to the race director and commissaries to determine when they could continue with the race.
“If the race cannot be continued, results from the last cut-off time will be taken to determine the winners of each category in the Century Ride,” he said.
“The organisers would like to apologise for any complications. We’d also like to request road users’ cooperation throughout the event,” he said.
The NST C-Cycle Challenge is held in partnership with property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd, with Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd as the event’s official bank and Treknology as product sponsor.
Registration for participants closed on Aug 24.
Contestants stand to win a RM37,700. Lucky draws will be held with prizes worth more than RM49,000 up for grabs.
