MACC RAIDS FELCRA BHD SUBSIDIARY IN SETAPAK
This is to facilitate a probe into alleged abuse of power
THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided a Felcra Bhd subsidiary in Setapak here yesterday.
MACC officers seized financial documents and those related to contracts for training courses worth RM4 million to facilitate an investigation into suspected misappropriation and abuse of power.
A source told the New Straits Times Press that the raid in Setapak was conducted by 10 officers, who arrived at the office at 9.30am.
At the same time, MACC teams raided another subsidiary in Kelantan, and 10 other companies in the east coast, Klang Valley and Perak that received the contracts.
The source said the commission was probing a senior manager in the subsidiary over suspected abuse of power in appointing at least 10 companies in which he had an interest.
“The 53-year-old is alleged to have engaged these companies, which are owned by his family members, in-laws and associates, to supply teachers and training experts for the courses, run by the Felcra subsidiary.
“We are investigating whether the individual had a direct interest in these companies or if he benefited in the form of rewards.”
The source said the investigators believed that the abuse of power began in 2014, involving projects worth RM4 million.
“The raids saw officers reviewing and seizing documents, including appointment letters and minutes of meetings. We believe more companies are involved. The senior manager is also suspected of having received kickbacks from each contract.”
MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the raids.
