Doc accused of sexual harassment suspended

-

SUNGAI BULOH: An orthopaedic head of department at Sungai Buloh Hospital, who was accused of sexual harassment, has been suspended from work for two months, starting Monday.

Announcing this, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the decision to suspend the department head, who previously had been told to go on leave, was made by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

This, he said, was done under Rule 43 to enable investigation by authorities, including the Health Ministry, to be carried out.

“The ministry will begin its investigation next week. The report will be submitted to PSC for the termination of service of the department head.

“However, he is entitled to defend his position,” Dr Dzulkefly said yesterday after a closeddoor meeting with the department’s personnel.

Dr Dzulkefly said the ministry had held 31 meetings on the issue, with 38 individuals claiming that they were victims of sexual harassment by the doctor.

“The ministry has also submitted the initial investigation report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.”

He said the Malaysian Medical Council had been notified and was mulling the revocation of the doctor’s medical licence.

He confirmed that there would be no transfer among housemen and staff of the hospital.
