AUSMAT students pay tribute to lecturers
EACH year, students of the Australian Matriculation (Ausmat) programme at Sunway College show their appreciation for their lecturers through the Ausmat Teacher Appreciation Day and Talent Time.
This year, the celebration continued with AUSMAT lecturers showcasing their talents on stage.
Lecturers Nur Jalilah Abdul Aziz, Diana Gail and Yang Safia Mior Azli entertained the audience with a rendition of What A Man from The Sapphires, a 2012 Australian musical comedy-drama film based on a 2004 stage play of the same name.
Nur Jalilah then teamed up with another lecturer Jason Soh to sing You Are the Reason, a duet by Calum Scott and Leona Lewis, followed by a solo performance by Soh with Perfect by Ed Sheeran.
In her welcoming speech, Ausmat director Vanitha Satchithanadane paid tribute to the programme’s lecturers and acknowledged them as key to the students’ success. She presented tokens of appreciation to the lecturers amidst loud cheers from the students.
The lecturers were in turn entertained by students with a “Talent Time” session, which started off with a dance perfor- mance by a student group Sarah Angel, followed by a skit and dance by Darren Nicholas Ting Ming Jin and Leong Chin Mun.
Samantha Laura John delivered a powerful rendition of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You. Callie and Co entertained the crowd with a dance performance and Mariah Izabelle Merican with her rendition of Beyonce’s Listen.
Champions of Talent Time were Ting and Leong, with John in second place and Merican in third place.
This year Ausmat annual I-Care charity drive and I-Care Run raised RM18,087 for PAWS Animal Welfare Society.
The annual I-Care Day and Run aims to provide Ausmat students with the opportunity to raise funds for a selected charity organisation, educate and raise social awareness among students on underprivileged and deprived individuals and what they can do to help, as well as bring public attention to the selected charity organisation.
In the past, proceeds from Ausmat ICare Day were channeled to organisations that include Yayasan Generasi Gemilang, United Voice, Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia, Elshaddai Refugee Learning Centre, Yayasan Chow Kit and Teach for Malaysia. Proceeds were also used to set up a mini library at Taman Permata in Dengkil, Selangor.
