‘Bigger Rumawip units in future’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Affordable Housing Project (Rumawip) will build units with a built-up area of 83.6sq m in the future.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said this was one of the improvements made by Pakatan Harapan government for Rumawip, a project that was introduced by the previous Barisan Nasional government.

He said it was in line with a directive from the Housing and Local Government Ministry to raise the minimum built-up area of housing units from 74.3sq m to 83.6sq m.

He said developers would be appointed via open tender to prevent corruption and misappropriation.

“This shows that we (the PH government) do not reject all the initiatives by BN,” he said yesterday after launching the Sales and Commencement of Works of Rumawip Rampai II Residency here.

“The implementation of Rumawip, which uses the cross-subsidy method, is good as the government does not have to fork out a single sen. The ongoing Rumawip projects, however, will proceed as what had been decided before.”

Khalid said 89 Rumawip projects with 55,974 units had been approved from 2013 until last month.

“Of the total, 9,254 units at 17 projects have been completed, while 23,256 units at 36 projects are being developed with a total value of RM9 billion.”
