Manipal grads set the benchmark
IT IS gratifying and delightful to an educational institution when its alumni do not only face up to career challenges, but actually step up on the next rung of their professions by specialising in their chosen vocations.
Melaka-Manipal Medical College, which prides itself on moulding effectual medical professionals, expects no less from its graduates.
History repeated itself when its graduates successfully took their first step towards a postgraduate qualification.
These graduates are just fresh off their MBBS studies and are still awaiting the Health Ministry’s call to commence their housemanship.
Wanting to make full use of their time before stepping into the whirlwind of internship in a hospital, recently graduated students signed up for the UK’s Royal College Membership Programme and completed Part 1 of the MRCOG professional exams.
A few students had similar success at Professional and Linguistics Assessment Board (PLAB, UK) exams.
Whilst very pleased, these success stories come as no surprise to this premier medical school and truly reflects the ethos of the college. Melaka-Manipal prides itself on the quality of its education and standards are set to the best in the industry.
Established in Malaysia since 1997, Melaka-Manipal celebrated 20 exceptional years last year. Just under 4,000 MBBS graduates have since joined the ranks in the noble career of healing, while over 200 highly skilled dental surgeons have passed out since the inception of its Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 1998.
Melaka-Manipal has been at the forefront of medical education, reflected by the numerous honours it has received in its two decades, including the BrandLaureate Branding in medical education in 2011.
Even those who wish to move into Allied Health Science programmes such as Physiotherapy and Pharmacy in other institutions have found the Melaka-Manipal Foundation very useful, as its curriculum includes the basics of medical and dental subjects.
Melaka-Manipal’s twinning degree programmes are designed so that students complete preclinical training in their Manipal, India Campus, for two years and a half, and then return to hone their clinical skills.
The Health Ministry hospitals in Melaka, Muar, Jasin, Segamat and government polyclinics provide the settings for the clinical skills training.
Dentistry students perfect their clinical skills in Melaka-Manipal’s very own on-campus Dental Clinic. The facilities and amenities for students’ comfort and well–being are to ensure students are inspired to pursue their studies with zest and passion in the best learning ambience.
The upcoming intakes for the MBBS and BDS programmes are in October and aspirants are advised to submit their applications as soon as possible at www.manipal.edu.my.
