NATIONAL diving coach Christian Brooker revealed that both Cheong Jun Hoong and Pandelela Rinong are recovering well from their injuries.

Jun Hoong, the reigning world 10m platform individual champion, suffered a knee injury in July while Pandelela is currently down with a back problem.

The Ipoh-born Jun Hoong withdrew from the Indonesia Asian Games, while Pandelela did so after the 10m platform individual qualifying event at the competition.

Brooker, who is currently in Perak to identify new divers with talent at the Malaysia Games, said everything is under control with the duo.

The national diving squad are now on a one-month break.

“Jun Hoong’s recovery is going pretty good. I spoke to her about it when she was here for the Malaysia Games to watch the diving events,” said Brooker in Ipoh yesterday.

“She is currently on crutches after a recent knee surgery. She told me that her rehab is going well. Hopefully, we will see her back to the diving pool soon.

“Pandelela suffered a muscle strain (at the Asian Games), and she is also seeing medical professionals as well. Everything is under control.

“The whole point of the break is to let everyone recover following a string of competitions.”

The Australian, however, declined to comment on when the duo will be able to resume training.

“It depends on how quickly the medical professionals (can give green light),” Brooker added.

“We do not want to push her (Jun Hoong) too quickly, the priority is to make sure she recovers completely.”

The divers will next compete in the Fina Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur (Nov 9-11), Gold Coast (Nov 15-18) and Singapore (Nov 23-25).
