Tok Pa: No significant efforts made to change Umno

-

DATUK Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who quit the party on Tuesday, says he was frustrated by the apparent lack of urgency to introduce reforms in the 72-year-old institution.

KOTA BARU: Pas will welcome Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed to the party if he wants to join it.

Pas vice-president and Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said while it was likely Mustapa, fondly known as Tok Pa, would join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Pas would welcome him if he decided to join the Islamic party.

“We have no problems accepting him. Like what I have said before, Umno’s time has ended and the party should have been dissolved long ago.

“Umno is on a path of destruction. Many will follow in Tok Pa’s footsteps,” he said after delivering his sermon at Medan Ilmu here yesterday.

Amar said Pas’ doors had always been open to everyone.

“It has been Pas’ policy since its formation.”

On whether Tok Pa’s departure would affect Umno, Amar said it would impact the party because he was now an independent MP.

On the cooperation between Pas and Umno, he said there was no “cooperation”.

“We are only having drinks and talking. Our cooperation is more on certain matters, like helping those in need.”
