‘Inspection of ex-PM’s mum’s home went smoothly’
KUALA LUMPUR: Police’s inspection of the home of Tun Rahah Mohammad Noah, mother of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was carried out based on information from ongoing investigations.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said: “We concluded that there was a need to inspect the house based on our investigation. The inspection went smoothly.”
He said this after attending the closing ceremony of the Piala Ketua Polis Negara Futsal Championship here yesterday.
On Thursday, Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, confirmed that police raided the home of Najib’s mother at Jalan Eaton here.
He said the action was deemed unfair and any inspection should have reasonable cause.
Noor Rashid, when asked to comment on Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who might be charged, said the investigation was being done by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“MACC is conducting the investigation, I cannot comment.”
On Thursday, MACC did not rule out the possibility of Rosmah being charged in the near future.
However, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki, at a press conference, declined to elaborate.
Earlier, newspapers reported that Rosmah was expected to face more than 20 criminal charges, mostly involving money laundering.
