Awie and Dragon Malaya showcase

The iconic rocker will be performing with his all-star rock band at G Tower next month, writes Dennis Chua

ICONIC rocker, television host, actor and comedian Datuk Awie never fails to draw the crowds to his showcases, and he is set to have another one on Oct 28 in G Tower, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. Titled Datuk Awie And Dragon Malaya Showcase 2018, it brings Awie’s all-star rock band Dragon Malaya into the spotlight at 9pm at G Tower’s House Restaurant.

Dragon Malaya was formed in 2000 by Awie during the recording of his album Rentap. Its original members were Kid of Search (guitarist), CD Silkhanaz (guitarist), Yus of May (bassist), and Jojet (drummer).

Awie, who is Dragon Malaya’s lead singer, chose to form the group to give music lovers greater exposure to his solo numbers instead of those which he recorded with his band, Wings.

Dragon Malaya currently comprises Awie, Eddie of Def Gab C (bassist), Lan Taro (guitarist), and Pae of Projek Pistol and Search (drummer). It last performed at the Federal Territories International Motorfest 2018 in Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Federal Territory Day on Feb 1.

The hour-long mini concert drew a crowd of more than 10,000 people, and the band not only performed Awie’s songs but also cover versions of rock numbers made popular by Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne and the Scorpions.

The coming showcase will be relaxed and informal, and Awie will readily mingle with guests throughout the show.

The Hillary Ang Project led by legendary rock guitarist Hillary Ang will be the opening act. This band comprises Kudin of Headwind (keyboardist), Fauzi (bassist), Elji (vocalist), and Pae (drummer).

The showcase is jointly organised by MPC Events and Virtuosity.

Tickets are priced at RM120 but 400 early bird tickets worth RM100 each are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
