11 ‘Amazing Spring’ actors warded

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven actors in the Chinese New Year movie, Amazing Spring, are receiving treatment at Sunway Medical Centre. Twenty others have been discharged.

“The victims are given the best treatment and our company is bearing all the costs,” said Jack Lim, the movie’s Malaysian executive producer.

“Producers and directors are at the hospital to make sure their needs are attended to.”

The production team has denied claims in foreign reports that the crew accidentally poured fuel on the actors, leaving 31 injured in a fire on the filmset in Bandar Bukit Puchong.

Lim said there were also false reports claiming that the actors, who were engulfed in flames, had run into the crowd, injuring others.

The director ordered the special effects team to set a barn, which was doused with petrol, on fire. But the fire spread to the whole set.

“In the 7am incident on Monday, at least 10 cameras were set up.

“After assessing the videos, we found that it happened in just two seconds,” he said.

Lim, who is also an actor, said the production team did not expect the fire to spread and injure actors and crew members.

The injured include actress Joey Leong, 24, actor Cedric Loo, 30, and Hong Kong actress Sharon Yeung Pan-pan, 59.

The film is scheduled for release next year.
