MUSTAPHA KAMIL RETURNS TO MEDIA PRIMA

He is new news and editorial operations executive director

MEDIA Prima Bhd has announced the appointmen­t of Mustapha Kamil Mohd Janor as its news and editorial operations executive director.

It also announced that Mustapha Kamil had been appointed to the boards of Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd and the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP) effective yesterday.

As executive director, Mustapha Kamil will be responsibl­e for the overall operations of Media Prima news and editorial functions.

The group, in a statement yesterday, said: “He will provide the strategic direction and oversight of Media Prima Television Networks and NSTP news operations, and will focus on optimising the group’s news resources in line with Media Prima’s business transforma­tion efforts.

“He reports to Media Prima’s group managing director.”

Mustapha Kamil, 57, brings with him 26 years of experience in journalism.

He began his career as a cadet reporter at NSTP in 1989 and held various positions in the company, including NSTP foreign correspond­ent in New York, Business Times managing editor and the New Straits Times group editor until his resignatio­n in May 2016.

“On behalf of the board of directors and management of Media Prima, we are delighted to welcome Mustapha Kamil’s return to the group,” Media Prima Group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid said.

“He is a highly respected figure among the journalism fraternity, and his experience and knowledge of the group will be valuable as we continue to evolve.

“The past three years saw Media Prima aggressive­ly establishi­ng the group’s digital presence by bringing our award-winning news content online via news portals and video streaming.

“We are confident that Mustapha Kamil will lead news and editorial operations to solidify our position as the leading digital news provider in Malaysia.”
