Chan to Anwar: Why choose PD move?
PORT DICKSON: Independent candidate for the Port Dickson by-election Stevie Chan Keng Leong has presented five questions to fellow candidate and PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the urgent need to hold the polls.
The social media personality said the questions were important because he and the people wanted to know the reason behind the by-election as the 14th General Election was recently held on May 9.
The by-election was called after Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacating the seat on Sept 12 to make way for Anwar to return to Parliament.
The five questions for Anwar are: “Why is he (Anwar) not contesting in the Pandan parliamentary seat, which is held by his wife, (Datuk Seri) Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, or the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat held by his daughter, Nurul Izzah?
“Why do you want to re-enter Parliament through a by-election?
“Why choose the ‘PD move’?
“Can you accept a representative who resigns without a valid reason?
“Will you contest the Port Dickson parliamentary seat in the next election if you win this time?”
Chan said Anwar, who became the next PKR president unopposed recently, could answer the questions publicly.
He said he was ready to debate Anwar.
The by-election will see a seven-cornered fight on Oct 13.
Other candidates are Pas’ Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Mohd Nazri Mokhtar, independents Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad, who is former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who is Anwar’s former personal aide, Lau Seck Yen and Kan Chee Yuen.
