Pas can win 80pc of early votes, says candidate

-

PORT DICKSON: Pas is optimistic that it will get 80 per cent of early votes from armed forces personnel and police officers for the Port Dickson by-election.

Its candidate, Lieutenant-Colonel (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar, said discussions with several branches of the Armed Forces Veterans Association had been positive.

He said the association was prepared to help Pas, adding that they were disappointed with the former Port Dickson member of parliament, an ex-servicemen, for vacating the seat to make way for PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“They are disappointed as the resignation betrayed armed forces personnel who voted in the 14th General Election. Pas is contesting this by-election because it is confident it can win the seat.

“During GE14, 30 per cent of early votes went to us. This time, we are confident of getting 80 per cent.

“I know the soldiers here because I was an officer in the armed forces,” he said at the Lukut market while campaigning.

On the demographics of Lukut, where the majority are Chinese, Nazari said he was confident he would get most of the votes as Pas was not a race-based party.

He said Pas accepted all races, adding that the Pas Supporters Club was proof that it was accepted by non-Muslims.
