Sports Minister wants stakeholders to have more say in the sport
SPORTS Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman wants the motorsports community to have a bigger say in the future of the sport.
One of the strategies is by placing them on the board of directors for the various tracks across the country.
The Sports Ministry hosted a townhall meeting with motorsports stakeholders, from grassroots to the elite level, in Putrajaya yesterday.
Syed Saddiq said the meeting was the first step towards creating a more inclusive environment in motorsports.
“One thing we are looking at is to appoint grassroots members on the respective boards of all the circuits.
“One of them is Sepang International Circuit (SIC), which is under my jurisdiction,” said Syed Saddiq yesterday.
“We will also discuss this with the other circuits, including Tangkak Circuit which is also under the ministry, as well as those under state governments.
“We will also ask the track owners to conduct their own town hall sessions because they have their own support groups. They can then hear it (input) for themselves and take action.”
SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali said his circuit will try to solve some of the issues raised during the town hall session.
“This is the first time the Sports Ministry has done this and the response was very good.
“Two hours, however, was not enough to allow everyone to voice their concerns and suggestions,” said Razlan.
“We will try to help resolve some of the issues raised today. I believe over 50 per cent of the issues can be resolved.”
Razlan disclosed that SIC will also organise town hall sessions in the future.
