- Fabian Peter

Kedah BA (KBA) have voiced their full support in assisting the family of the late shuttler Tan Chee Tean.

Chee Tean, 24, a former national shuttler, passed away on Friday when he along with two other Austrian players (Antonia Meinke and Jenny Ertl) were involved in a road accident in the South of Brno, Czech Republic.

The former Malaysian mixed doubles specialist died on the spot while the other shuttlers were severely injured.

All three players were travelling to Austria after competing in the Czech Open International Challenge.

KBA president Datuk Teoh Teng Chor said: “We are doing everything we can in assisting the family, especially in bringing back his body.

“There are formalities, but our Malaysian embassy in Vienna have been very kind in assisting us.

“Chee Tean’s sister (Wendy Tan) along with two other former players (Lim Kenn and Tan Kuan) will be flying to Vienna tomorrow, and we will be updated accordingly on the process.

“Rest assured, we will assist the family the best we can during this trying time,” he said yesterday.

The Kedah-born Chee Tean, who was roped in for the national team in 2012, left in February this year. It is understood that he had left for Austria to further his studies, and also to coach and play as a professional.
