Federal Govt, National Land Council must first decide on matter, says Faizal

THE Perak government cannot give land titles of 999 years or permanent titles to new villages in the state now as the matter must first be decided by the Federal Government and the National Land Council.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said a townhall would be held so that the authoritie­s could gather input before the matter was taken to federal authoritie­s.

“That is why we are giving approvals of only 99 years leasehold for 3,000 holders of Temporary Occupancy Licenses. Those who received these approvals can go to the banks for loans to build their homes.”

He said the issue of the state government not fulfilling its manifesto promise did not arise,

adding that it needed to go through the promises carefully to ensure that the state’s interests were preserved.

He said the state could not fulfil a pledge if it negatively impacted the majority.

“We cannot make decisions just to gain popularity.”
