IRB approved 8,000 applications

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has approved about 8,000 tax exemption applications from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), associations and foundations since 1967.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah, said each application must meet the requirements under Section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967.

“We receive a lot of tax exemption applications from NGOs and foundations. However, some are denied due to failure to comply with the requirements.

“Other rejection factors are incomplete documentation or the organisation does not meet its objective,” he said at the “A Morning with LHDNM, Know How of NGO Tax Exemption Process” programme here yesterday.

He urged NGOs and foundations to obtain detailed information from IRB before submitting their applications. He said the tax payment compliance among eligible NGOs was satisfactory.

Sabin launched the agency’s latest initiative, a QR code system, to help the public to review their tax updates.
