Avoid personal attacks, says Fahmi

PORT DICKSON: PKR defended party leaders’ attack on Port Dickson by-election candidate Tan Sri Isa Samad.

Its strategic communications chief, Fahmi Fadzil, said refraining from personal attacks did not mean that criticism of poor work ethics, governance and abuse of power was off the table.

“It is different when it comes to issues of professionalism and governance.

“These may be touched on during campaign, especially when it involves kleptocracy, poor administration and abuse of power,” he said at the PKR war room here yesterday.

Recently, Negri Sembilan Speaker Zulkefly Mohamad Omar said Isa, as a former menteri besar of the state, should be blamed for the outbreak of Japanese encephalitis several years ago.

Isa, in response to this attack, had said that he had no qualms about retaliating against his opponents using personal attacks if he was pressured to do so.

Fahmi said the party would ensure that all Pakatan Harapan leaders attending talks are reminded of the ethics of campaigning.

He said instead of resorting to personal attacks, politicians should focus on what needed to be done to boost Port Dickson’s image ahead of the polls.

“Personal attacks are an unhealthy culture and in Malaysia Baru, we should change our attitude by verifying information before spreading it.

“I have reminded the public to be aware of such attacks as I expect baseless accusations to surface as the polling day draws near.”
