‘Veterans want deputy minister replaced’
PORT DICKSON: The government must listen to calls made by army veterans to replace Deputy Defence Minister Senator Liew Chin Tong with a candidate among the former Armed Forces senior officers.
Pas candidate for the Port Dickson by-election Lieutenant-Colonel (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar said the demand was made by several veterans’ associations that deemed Liew as unqualified for the position.
“Do not take this wrongly. The veterans did not protest because he (Liew) is Chinese, but rather based on qualifications, because the government has many candidates including former military senior officers in Pakatan Harapan.
“The armed forces personnel and veterans were disappointed with the government’s move and the calls for the replacement to be made by polling day on Oct 13 are getting louder by the day,” he said at Pasar Tani Batu 4 here on yesterday.
He said Pas’ campaign was going smoothly and showed promising potential based on people’s feedback.
“We could see that voters had realised their mistake of choosing PH in the 14th General Election and started to feel comfortable with Pas.
“As a candidate, I am highly motivated as I’m backed by a strong machinery that is willing to schedule and accompany me as I visit the voters every day,” he said.
