THE state government is aiming to turn Meru Raya into a smart city soon following the existence of fibre optic infrastructure here.

Perak Communications, Multimedia, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and Cooperatives Development Committee chairman, Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim, said the state government hoped to make Meru Raya like Cyberjaya in Selangor which also acts as a hub for MSC Malaysia.

“We have the infrastructure but we need to improve it and the state government welcomes all the ICT players to run their operations and businesses here because this is a new city.

“By having administrative complex, high-end residential areas and easy access to expressway, we hope these elements will attract more people to come to this possible city centre, after Ipoh.”

Hasnul Zulkarnain said this after launching the Asia Pacific Digital Technology Symposium and International Digital Technology Exhibition 2018 at Casuarina @ Meru Hotel here yesterday. Present was organising chairman, Ir Choo Kok Beng.

Hasnul Zulkarnain said Meru Raya was chosen as it was a new city gazetted as a registered cyber centre that was fast developing and met the requirements set by MSC Malaysia.

“With the status, Meru Raya can be further developed in order to fulfil our dream to turn it into the smart city. We want to create a city area that utilises technology on a large and diverse scale to achieve value-added benefits that suit the residents, businesses, local authorities and visitors.

“I welcome all the ICT and multimedia-based companies and services promoting green technology and high innovation technology to take this opportunity to open or expand their offices and branches in Meru Raya.”
