2 held in drug raids
MELAKA: Police detained two men, one of whom offered a RM100,000 bribe to be released, and seized various drugs and processing equipment worth RM1.29 million in separate raids on Tuesday.
State police chief Datuk Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said the first raid was to arrest a 43-yearold man at his residence at a condominium in Tengkera about 9.45am.
He said the man had been under Narcotics Department investigation and surveillance for a month before he was detained while in his car at the condominium.
The man then led police to his condo unit where they found 3.86kg of heroin base, 137.03kg of caffeine, 6,960 Eramin-5 pills and various equipment used to process drugs.
“The suspect then brought police to another condominium, in Banda Hilir, about 5pm where we seized 592g of heroin, 7.94kg of ketamine and 100g of syabu,” he said at the state police headquarters.
Raja Shahrom said, in the second raid, police arrested a man at Km215 of the North-South Expressway and seized 4kg of syabu found in his Mercedes Benz SLK200 about 5pm.
“The suspect, a labourer, was driving from Kuala Lumpur to Jo- hor Baru. When he was detained, he tried to bribe the police patrolmen with RM100,000 cash.
“Police also seized the cash, which was hidden under the driver’s seat.
“Checks revealed that the man has a criminal record with five drug-related offences.”
Raja Shahrom said police obtained remand orders to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, for trafficking, an offence which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
