K. Kailash Nau turns heads with antennae-like facial hair
BARBER K. Kailash Nau turns heads whenever he attends formal functions. This is because Kailash, 37, named after a mountainous peak in Transhimalaya, Tibet, is a stunner with his V-shaped antennae moustache.
Kailash was invited to compete in three international moustache/beard competitions in the United Kingdom and the United States in the past two years.
Unfortunately, he was unable to secure visas to the two countries, despite strong recommendations from competition organisers.
“I wanted to compete there as they are opportunities for me to earn recognition and boost my reputation.
“But it has not discouraged me from trying again and, hopefully, I will have better luck next time,” said Kailash.
He operates his Master Hair Salon in Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, Kuala Lumpur.
He charges RM12 per haircut and an additional RM10 for a shave. The majority of his clients are Nepali foreign workers.
He cut a dashing figure in his lounge suit and gelled V-shaped antennae moustache at the Nepal National Day in Kuala Lumpur recently.
He was a star attraction as guests, including diplomats, took photos with him.
Kailash said he came from a generation of barbers. But when he arrived in Malaysia 13 years ago, he tried his hand as a recruiting agent for Nepali workers for two years.
“I worked another two years with a glove manufacturing company in Meru, Klang, in Selangor.
“Then, I developed a business partnership with locals to venture into the hair salon business in Kuala Lumpur.
“This is where I learnt about moustache and beard grooming eight years ago.
“Soon, I became fascinated with international competitions related to it.”
Kailash returns to the Nepali capital of Kathmandu each year to visit his wife and three sons for Deepavali.
He said he learnt about international moustache/beard competitions through friends and social media.
He applied for the British Beard and Moustache Championship 2018 on Aug 18 at Winter Gardens in Blackpool, Lancashire, the UK.
He followed it up with the Great American Beard and Moustache Championship 2018 on Sept 2529 in Richmond, Virginia, the US.
He was also invited to compete in the World Beard and Moustache Championship 2017 on Sept 1-3 in Austin, Texas.
