Mall celebrates Mid-Autumn fest with underprivileged
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 500 people celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival by taking part in a rabbit-themed lantern parade organised by Sunway Putra Mall.
Joining the festivities were Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer Chan Hoi Choy, Sunway Putra Mall general manager Phang Sau Lian and Touching Lives Club Kuala Lumpur and Selangor vice-president Datuk Tan Choo Teck.
Some 200 underprivileged children and single mothers from eight charity homes, including Yayasan Chow Kit, also took part.
Starting from the mall’s main entrance, participants walked to Bukit Tunku while being entertained by a dragon dance troupe and fire performance artistes.
Colourful rabbit-themed lanterns and mooncakes were handed to shoppers.
Phang said the mall wanted to create a memorable shopping experience for its visitors.
“(And) at the same time, not forgetting underprivileged families... (We want) to let them know that they are not being left out.”
Phang said rabbits were significant in the Asian culture, hence a symbol of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
“The mall is adorned with more than 8,888 rabbit-themed origami inspired by Japanese folktale Rabbit in the Moon.”
