Honda City cements position as best-selling B-segment car

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia celebrated a milestone yesterday with the sales of its 300,000th unit of City, its best-selling model in the country.

The City is also the No. 1 model in the B-segment.

Honda Malaysia said the second-generation City, launched in 2001, sold more than 61,000 units while the third-generation City brought the legacy a step higher with more than 85,000 units sold.

More than 155,000 units of the current fourth-generation City have been sold since its launch in 2014.

When the newly-enhanced and refreshed fourth-generation City was launched in March last year, it continued to be well-accepted with more than 48,900 units sold till August.

Honda Malaysia said the City contributed 30 per cent to its overall sales from January to August, and captured 51 per cent of the B-segment market share.

During the period, sales increased 16 per cent compared with the same period last year.

This resulted in Honda Malaysia maintaining its No. 1 position in the non-national car segment and No. 2 in overall total industry volume to date.

Honda Malaysia said in the first eight months, the E-variant emerged as the top-selling City model with a sales contribution of 44 per cent while the V variant contributed 33 per cent.

“We are delighted to mark this milestone of surpassing the 300,000-unit sales for the City within a span of 17 years since it was first introduced in Malaysia.

“This has proven the success of the City in Malaysia,” said Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Toichi Ishiyama.

“The fourth-generation City is the best-selling Honda model and it continues to lead in the Bsegment.

“This outstanding record achievement would not have been possible without the support from our customers.

“I would like to extend our sincere appreciation and thankfulness to Malaysians for their support and belief in our brand, and for making City their vehicle of choice,” Ishiyama added.
