THE Education Ministry will ensure the National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN) loan payment formula does not burden the borrower, especially those who have just started working.

Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said the minimum payback rate for students was still being studied by the ministry.

“PTPTN debtors have to pay back the loans, depending on their affordability.

“However, the ministry and PTPTN are still discussing the implementation criteria to ensure it is not going to be a burden,” he said in an interview with Malaysia Hari Ini yesterday.

The issue involved the Finance Ministry and the Economic Affairs Ministry.

In the same interview, Maszlee also talked about teachers’ role in schools today.

He said teachers should be recognised as heros.

“Teachers teach and guide their students and are also busy with clerical work.

“To uphold the educational institution, teachers need to focus on educating the public as well,” he said.

He urged teachers, parents and the community to love and respect one another.
