D-G: Anti-drug op to help addicts

-

LANGKAWI: The anti-drug operations carried out by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) are not merely aimed at nabbing drug addicts but to help overcome their addiction.

Its director-general, Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah, said these addicts should be considered as patients in need of treatment and they could be rehabilitated through various AADK programmes.

“We are sincere in our efforts to help them to recover and, after going through the programmes, they can return to their respective jobs,” he said here yesterday.

He was commenting on addicts who managed to escape during the operation, dubbed Op Helang, which began two days ago here.

So far, 199 individuals, including a 13year-old boy, suspected to be drug addicts, have been nabbed in the integrated operation involving 16 government agencies.
