THE Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) detained Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim’s son shortly after the Baling member of parliament was released from remand.

The 24-year-old was detained at the MACC headquarters at noon yesterday after he was summoned there.

It is believed that his detention was linked to MACC’s probe into a corruption case involving a government project worth millions of ringgit.

He is being questioned under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting or receiving gratification.

MACC is expected to obtain a remand for Azeez’s son at the magistrate’s court here today.

MACC has arrested a vehicle broker, with the title of “Datuk Indera”, to assist in an investigation into the same case.

MACC had, on Wednesday, obtained a six-day remand for the 40-year-old man until Oct 8.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim.

A source said the suspect was believed to be a proxy for a member of parliament, who was recently arrested by MACC.

The source also said he had acted as a “runner” in transferring bribe money from contractor companies.

“Further investigations will be carried out by MACC under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

“The suspect is the fourth person to be remanded since Sept 26, including the member of parliament in the investigation of the same case,” the source said.

It was reported that MACC seized RM500,000 and RM1.2 million in various currencies from houses belonging to Azeez on May 23.

The raids were to facilitate investigations into the appointment of contractors involving Tabung Haji projects.

MACC later remanded Azeez and his brother, Abdul Latif, for four days after their arrests on Sept 25.

The remand order was extended by another six days.

They were released yesterday on bail of RM1 million each in two sureties.
