Former TH chairman, brother released on RM1m bail each
PUTRAJAYA: Baling member of parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and his older brother, Abdul Latif Abdul Rahim, were released yesterday after being remanded for 10 days to assist in a probe into corruption involving a Tabung Haji (TH) contract.
Magistrate Ahmad Afiq Hasan allowed the brothers to be released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail of RM1 million each in two sureties.
Sources said investigation was ongoing and that MACC would call the former TH chairman and his brother back for further questioning.
Azeez, 52, and his brother were brought to the magistrate’s court here at 9.30am. They was greeted by 100 supporters.
On Sept 26, Azeez, with his brother and cousin, were remanded for four days to assist in the probe.
Azeez and Latif’s remand orders were extended by another six days. Their cousin was released on RM10,000 bail in two sureties.
Azeez, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, was detained at the MACC headquarters at 11.15am on Sept 25.
His brother, who is a general manager of a company, was arrested in Sungai Buloh on the same day.
