Malaysia to be top contributor to cybersecurity services market
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is one of the top three Asean countries expected to grab 75 per cent share of the cybersecurity market by 2025, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
He said with opportunities in the digital economy, including the growth of the cybersecurity industry, the government had outlined strategies, which included continuing to produce highincome talent to boost national productivity.
“(Other s t r a t egies) include developing Malaysia as a leading Asean country f o r a dvanced cy- bersecurity analytics and forensic resources, and to boost national cybersecurity preparedness to secure digital economic growth.”
Gobind was speaking at the launch of Asia Pacific University’s (APU) Cybersecurity Talent Zone here yesterday.
The Cybersecurity Talent Zone features a security operations centre that allows students to have a cybersecurity operations experience. APU partnered with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and industry players from Malaysia, the United Kingdom and France.
Gobind said a LinkedIn report last year showed that 21 per cent of Malaysia’s cybersecurity workforce were women, compared with one per cent in the United States.
“The overall situation is that the ‘funnel’ of new talent is too small and not enough to sustain and support the growing demand of our digital economy.”
He said Malaysia would focus on empowerment programmes, such as promoting cybersecurity as a career as well as to grow artificial intelligence knowledge and capability.
