NSTP gets 3 awards from Health Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Straits Times Press bagged three awards at the Health Ministry’s media appreciati­on night (AMK 2018) at Eastin Hotel here yesterday.

Osman Lisut, Rashiqah Ilmi Abdul Rahim and Mohd Zulkifli Zainuddin won the first prize in the Print Media-Best Health Reporting category for their story, Madu Diabetes. They won RM3,000 and a trophy.

The New Straits Times emerged winner in the Best Infographi­cs category, where Aziezul Abu Bakar won RM2,000 for his work on All about Eyes.

NST reporter Tharanya Arumugam won the third place in the Blue Ribbon Award category, which is dedicated to the antismokin­g campaign, with her article, No Smoking Campaigns Having Impact on the Young.

She won RM500.

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad congratula­ted the winners and said the media played an important role in boosting health-related awareness and disseminat­ing informatio­n.

Present were the ministry’s chief secretary Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min, director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, and deputy director-general (public health) and chairman of AMK 2018 organising committee, Datuk Dr Chong Chee Kheong, and Malaysian Press Institute chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya.

Dzulkefly said he hoped that the good relationsh­ip built and shared between the ministry and the media over the years would be further developed.

“This event is a way to show our appreciati­on to the media, which have been supporting our programmes, highlighti­ng health issues and giving health-related informatio­n to the public.”
