PH to adopt prudent approach in last days of campaigning
KUANTAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not adopt an aggressive approach, but a prudent one, in the final days of campaigning for the Port Dickson by-election, said its secretary-general, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
He said the involvement of PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today in the by-election campaign would motivate the coalition’s campaign workers.
Other PH leaders were expected to be present on the ground for the final week of campaigning, he said.
Saifuddin, who is foreign minister, said the final week of the 15-day campaign period would focus on simple and people-friendly programmes.
“We will not take an aggressive approach, but rather, a more prudent one to ensure that PH candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim achieves a comfortable victory.”
Saifuddin said this after opening a Malay Language Seminar for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students, which was organised by the Pahang chapter of the Malaysian Criminal Prevention Foundation (MCPF) at Mahkota Trading Complex here yesterday. Present were state MCPF chairman Datuk Seri Johny Ch’ng Ewe Gee and Pahang’s Crime Prevention and Community Safety chief Datuk Aziz Salleh.
About 500 students from 20 schools participated in the oneday seminar.
The Port Dickson parliamentary byelection was called after its incumbent, Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, 68, vacated the seat on Sept 12 to make way for Anwar’s return to the Dewan Rakyat.
The Election Commission (EC) had fixed Oct 13 as the polling date, while early voting would be tomorrow. The Port Dickson constituency has 75,770 registered voters, comprising 43 per cent Malay, Chinese (33 per cent), Indian (22 per cent) and others (two per cent)
