Umno’s Labuan MP may join Warisan

-

KOTA KINABALU: Labuan member of parliament Datuk Rozman Isli is expected to leave Umno for Parti Warisan Sabah.

Rozman, who has been defending his seat since 2013, would reportedly announce his decision in an official statement today.

When contacted, Rozman said he was preparing a statement to address rumours of his departure from Umno.

It is learnt that he was expected to submit his membership application form to Warisan deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking in Labuan today.

Leiking, who is international trade and industry minister, was expected to go on a working visit to

Labuan to meet local leaders and be briefed on the develop- ment of the duty-free island.

In May, Rozman said he was reportedly considering whether to stay in Umno or join another party as he did not want to risk having mega projects in the island cancelled by the new government.

He had said he did not reject the idea of joining Warisan as he wanted the best for Labuan and its people.

Warisan vice-president Junz Wong also reportedly said the party could work with Rozman in the interest of Labuan folk.

If Rozman joins Warisan, he will be the latest MP to leave Umno after the 14th General Election.

Last month, Jeli MP Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and Kimanis MP Datuk Seri Anifah Aman quit Umno.

Umno won 54 parliamentary seats in the last general election.

However, five have left the party, including Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal and Bagan Serai MP Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali.
