‘Cops will probe if there’s report’
KUALA LUMPUR: Police will scrutinise any report lodged over allegations that Pas received RM1.5 million of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) money from Umno.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said this was to determine if the case involved graft or criminal offences.
“Currently, there is no investigation (into the allegations) as I believe no police report has been lodged. We will have to look at any such report first.
“If there are elements of graft, then we will refer the case to MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), but if there are any other criminal elements, we will investigate,” he said after opening a forum titled “National Security Preventative Laws vs Human Rights” at the police college in Cheras.
Earlier, in Kuala Terengganu
Terengganu Parti Amanah Negara Youth urged the authorities to investigate allegations that Pas received money from Umno.
Its communications director, Muammar Qaddafi Nasir, claimed that a report had been lodged.
Muammar urged police to conduct a thorough probe to identify the source of the money, saying it could have come from stolen 1MDB funds.
On another matter, Noor Rashid said police were not investigating Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Zahid, who is Umno president, was summoned by MACC to have his statement recorded over allegations of theft of Yayasan Akal Budi funds.
