Cops receive 37 reports on polls

-

PORT DICKSON: Police have received 37 reports linked to the Port Dickson by-election between Sept 29 and yesterday.

District police chief Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed said only three investigation papers were opened in relation to criminal threats and election offences.

“The latest report received today (yesterday) was lodged by the Pakatan Harapan logistics machinery chief, who claimed that a banner hanged on an abandoned building had been cut. We went to the location and found no treacherous element.

“The case is classified as no disclosure of the offence,” he said at the Port Dickson district police headquarters here yesterday.

On the report lodged by independent candidate Stevie Chan Keng Leong against PH candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who allegedly violated election rules, Aidi said investigations were ongoing.

He said investigations were conducted under Section 10 (a) of the Election Offences Act 1954.

Aidi said security in Port Dickson was under control and candidates had mobilised their machinery teams and were intensifying their campaign. The number of applications for talks had also increased, he added.

He said 108 applications for talk permits had been received, with PH 54 applications, Pas (11) and independent candidates (43).

He said campaign materials must not include provocation, false information, defamation or incitement.
