Vote for any candidate you want, Umno members told

-

PORT DICKSON: Umno members are free to vote for any candidate they want in the Port Dickson byelection this Saturday.

Teluk Kemang Umno chief Mohd Faizal Ramli said this was in line with Barisan Nasional’s statement on the matter, and Umno would not prevent its members from carrying out their responsibility during the by-election.

“They are free to vote for any candidate. Voters, especially Umno members, must exercise their right as citizens and vote on Oct 13. Even though Umno is not contesting, members can vote in the by-election.”

He said some 13,000 Umno members were registered voters in the constituency.

Padang Rengas member of parliament Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz expressed his support for Pakatan Harapan candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Despite not being able to help the PKR president-elect on the campaign trail, Nazri said Port Dickson voters would be appointing Anwar as a member of parliament on his way to become the eighth prime minister.

“I can’t help Anwar in his campaign as I am attending a conference in Geneva from Oct 12 to 15. However, I will continue to support him.

“InsyaAllah, Port Dickson will get a candidate who will become the prime minister,” he said.

Nazri had declared his support for Anwar and said he would help the latter on his campaign trail for the by-election.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described Nazri’s statement as “celebrating differences in opinions”.
